2. What this policy covers
This policy covers personal information collected through www.nordland-timber.ca and through emails you send us from it. It does not cover third-party websites we link to, such as Natural Resources Canada.
3. What we collect, and why
When you visit the site
We do not use cookies, local storage, analytics, advertising or tracking tools, social media plugins or embedded third-party content. Fonts and images load from our own server only.
The website is built and run for us by Eco-Force GmbH on servers of Hetzner Online GmbH in Nuremberg, Germany. Like almost every web server, it automatically records technical data when a page is requested. This data is used only to deliver the site, keep it secure and diagnose faults:
- IP address
- date and time of the request
- page or file requested
- browser type and operating system (user agent)
- referring page, if your browser sends it
These logs are kept for 14 days and then deleted, unless we need them longer to investigate a specific security incident. We do not use them to identify or profile visitors.
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply and to handle your enquiry. By sending the email you consent to this use. Please do not send sensitive information by email.
4. Consent
We collect, use and disclose personal information only for the purposes described here, or with your consent. Where consent is implied (for example, replying to an email you sent), you can withdraw it at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. We will tell you what withdrawing consent means for your enquiry.
5. Sharing and service providers
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the website and our email, and only as far as they need it to provide the service:
- Website development and operation: Eco-Force GmbH, Sassnitz, Germany
- Web hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany (data centre in Nuremberg)
- Email: Google Workspace, provided by Google
These providers are bound by contract to protect the information and use it only for our purposes. These providers store or process information outside Canada: the website and its server logs in Germany, and email in the United States and other countries where Google operates. While it is there, it may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that jurisdiction.
We may also disclose personal information where the law requires or permits it.
6. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for, or as required by law. Server logs are kept as set out above. Email correspondence stays in our mailbox for as long as we need it to handle your enquiry, and longer only where it becomes part of business records we are required to keep. We periodically delete correspondence we no longer need.
7. Safeguards
We protect personal information with safeguards suited to its sensitivity. The site is served over encrypted HTTPS, access to our email and hosting accounts is restricted and protected, and we limit what we collect in the first place.
8. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and get access to it;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- withdraw your consent, as described in section 4;
- ask how we use and disclose your information, and to whom;
- challenge our compliance with this policy.
Send requests in writing to our Privacy Officer, by email or by post to our mailing address (section 1). We will respond within 30 days, and access is free of charge. If we cannot grant a request, we will explain why, as far as the law allows.
9. Complaints
If you have a concern, please contact our Privacy Officer first so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, toll-free 1-800-282-1376.
Visitors in Quebec, Alberta or British Columbia may also have rights under their province’s private-sector privacy law.
10. Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices change. The current version is always on this page, with its effective date below.
